Westminster has added three amendments to its new ordinances regulating the sale of electronic cigarettes after the National Association of Tobacco Outlets expressed concern about the clarity of portions of the new laws.
The amendments require retailers to check the age of anyone who appears under 27; prohibit tobacco retailers from possessing any alcoholic open containers while in business; and allow current tobacco retailers 90 days from the law’s enactment to comply.
The laws originally passed July 23 and were scheduled to be finalized by a second City Council vote last week, but the council had to approve the amended ordinances as if they were brought before them for the first time. The final vote is Sept. 10.
